SIM-Based Tracking

SIM-Based tracking refers to the process of monitoring the location and activities of a device by utilising the SIM card inserted into it. When a device with a SIM card is powered on and within range of a cellular tower, it communicates with the cellular network. The network identifies the device based on the SIM card's unique information and establishes a connection. Cellular networks constantly track the location of devices connected to them. The network determines the approximate location of a device by triangulating its position based on signals received from nearby GSM towers. Tracking application uses the SIM card’s connection to the cellular network to monitor the device location in real time or periodically. These services can provide geofencing, location history tracking, geofencing, and alerts for specific events.

SIM-based tracking has various applications, including vehicle tracking, asset tracking, fleet management, personal safety, and locating lost or stolen devices etc.

QTS has integrated FASTag with its SIM-Based tracking to ensure toll plaza-based vehicle tracking or track shipments in non-cellular areas.

It is essential to consider privacy and security concerns when using SIM- based tracking. User should be aware of who has access to their location data and have control over how it is shared.
